From Maidaan To Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw: 2021 Is The Year Of Biopics In Bollywood
2021 is expected to witness a wide range of biopics as multiple films have been scheduled for this year. Here is a look at a bunch of films which have been creating a buzz lately.
The year 2021 is all set to be the year of biopics with multiple projects including Kabir Khan’s ’83 and Kookie Gulati’s The Big Bull. Some of these films had been scheduled to release in the year 2020 but had to be pushed ahead due to the ongoing pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. Some films like Thalaivi and Sardar Udham Singh already have a lot of anticipation around them since they have promising storylines and feature talented actors in the lead role. Films are also being made on famous personalities like chess grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand and sports shooter Abhinav Bindra. These two films are still in the production stage and are expected to go on floors in the latter half of 2021 after a long pandemic break.

A wide range of biopic films have been scheduled for this year as some of them could not be released due to the ongoing pandemic. Ajay Devgn will be seen playing the lead role in the upcoming film Maidaan, which is based on the Indian football team coach, Syed Abdul Rahim. Another film which has been tentatively scheduled for 2021 is the much-anticipated Vicky Kaushal starrer based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. He will also play the lead role in the Sardar Udham Singh biopic which has been creating a lot of buzz amongst the fans.
Bhuj: The Pride of India is another film which was expected to release in the year 2020. However, the film had to be pushed due to the pandemic as the theatres were shut down unexpectedly. This film will revolve around the life of Vijay Karnik, who is renowned IAF personnel with an impressive history. Films are also being made on the lift of ruler Prithviraj Chauhan, politician Jayalalithaa, footballer Vijay Barse, Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, Cricketer Kapil Dev and Mithali Raj, amongst others. Sportswomen like PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal are also expected to have biopics of their own, which are currently in the initial phase.
Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is also a biopic film which will revolve around the life of Gangubai Kothewali, who had a larger-than-life story. She is a renowned lady from Mumbai who was pushed into prostitution at a young age. This film is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is also expected to star Parth Samthaan and Emraan Hashmi in key roles.
