Four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were taken down by security forces in an early morning encounter in the Nagrota district in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday (18 November). One policeman was injured during the fight. The gun battle started at around 5 am near the Nagrota toll plaza. According to the police, the intruders were heading to Kashmir in the evening after they had breached their way into the Indian side of the Line of Control (LOC). The infiltrators had possibly come in with the intention of attacking the upcoming District Development Council polls and panchayat by-elections, as per sources.
11 AK-47 rifles, 3 pistols, 29 grenades were recovered from the militants according to Director General of Police, Dilbagh Singh.
The terrorists were traveling in a truck that was stopped for a regular check at around 5 am. The three-hour faceoff started after the militants started firing at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The army and the local police also joined the operation soon after. The truck driver is absconding.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was cordoned off and movement has been stopped from Nagrota and Udhampur’s Tilting area. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also expected to be a part of the ongoing investigations.
