Former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah Initiates People’s Alliance For Gupkar Declaration
Six local political parties came together at the National Conference chief’s residence to sign the Gupkar Declaration that demands the restoration of Article 370 in J&K
Six parties came together on Thursday at National Conference (NC) Supremo Farooq Abdullah’s residence in Kashmir to sign the Gupkar Declaration. The same leaders had signed the first version of the Gupkar agenda on August 4 2019, one day before the central government revoked Article 370 in in the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Calling it the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, former chief minister of the erstwhile state Farooq Abdullah is demanding for the restoration of the law that gives a special status to the region.
Prior to this, both the NC senior chief and his son, Omar Abdullah, also an ex CM of J&K, met unofficially with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) head Mehbooba Mufti, hours after she was released from her one-year detention. The three convened to pledge unity in fighting for the rollback of Article 370.
The formal meeting was attended by leaders of the People’s Conference, Awami National Conference, People’s Movement and the CPI(M) apart from the PDP and NC themselves.
