Fatima Sana Shaikh: From Akaash Vani’s Sumbul To Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari’s Tulsi, How She Has Evolved As An Actor
From playing Vani’s classmate Sumbul in Akaash Vani to the bold and beautiful Tulsi Rane in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, have a look at how Fatima Sana Shaikh grew as an actor.
We all loved Tulsi Rane in the new comedy-drama Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari and it goes without saying that Fatima Sana Shaikh simply eased into the role. The Diljit Dosanjh starrer caused fits of laughter among its viewers while providing interesting insights on arranged marriages. Fatima who played the lead opposite Diljit stole the show with her screen presence. Fatima was on point portraying Tulsi Rane, a youngster from a middle-class household with an out of the box dream. The viewers loved watching her kill it on screen and we can only wonder how far she has come from featuring in the 2013 Kartik Aryan starrer Akaash Vani.

Fatima has been in the industry for a long as she started her journey as a child actor with Kamal Haasan’s 1997 film Chachi 420. It was in 2013 that we saw a transformed Fatima appearing in Akaash Vani as Vani’s (Nushrratt Bharuccha) classmate Sumbul. Right from her introduction scene, in which she can be seen ragging her classmates pretending to be a senior, we can see her charm and mindfulness. From introducing herself with a smile to having a ‘bored to death’ look while her friend romances, she had her ways of getting into the audiences’ hearts.
Fatima can be seen in one of the most famous ‘Shayari’ scene in the movie and she adds fun to it. From Vani’s cute friend Sumbul to Tulsi Rane, it is commendable how much the actress has grown over the period. In Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, we can see a bold and proud Maharashtrian who knows what she wants. Tulsi is determined over her lifegoals but loves her family at the same time. Tulsi is voluntarily agreeing to her brother’s decisions and this shows her love for him.
Even though the movie is a laugh riot from the very first scene, it is when Tulsi enters Suraj’s life, that changes the whole dynamics of the movie. What follows is a series of soulful and funny exchanges between the duo and we couldn’t be happier to watch Fatima do what she does best. She makes us laugh, and root for her along the way.
Towards the end, we even feel the pain she shares and we can’t imagine anyone in that role other than Fatima who made us fall in love with Tulsi Rane. However, from Akaash Vani to Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, not everything has changed as she still has those cute looks.
