Farmers To Meet Centre Today For Seventh Round Of Talks
In the 2 pm meeting at Vigyan Bhawan today, the farm unions leaders will press for the farm bills to be repealed and a legal written guarantee by the government regarding the MSP not being abolished
Farm union leaders will meet the central government today at 2 pm in Vigyan Bhawan. As the revolution enters its 35th day today, the agitators remain unshakeable on their demand to repeal the three controversial bills. The agricultural representatives will continue to press on the revocation of the bills along with a written guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) by the federal administration during their meeting.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal met earlier with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the way forward on the longstanding issue.
Meanwhile, the trolley-tractor rally that was supposed to happen today has been rescheduled to 31 December in the wake of the dialogue with the Modi government today. Hundreds of farmers will drive their tractors from the Singhu and Tikri borders of Delhi to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Highway to show their support for the ongoing revolution.
Children and women have also joined the demonstrations in large numbers, while 11 farmers on hunger strike at the Tikri border invited people to join them for the new year celebrations.
In a related development, chaos broke out between some left party activists and the police in Patna as the former were marching towards the Raj Bhavan as a part of the agrarian protests. According to sources, the law enforcement authorities were attacked first, following which lathis were used by them against the rallyists. The Nitish Kumar government came under severe criticism from the opposition leaders for the mayhem.
