Farmers Across Several States Demand Rollback Of Newly Passed Agriculture Bills
The government assured that there is no reason to worry about the newly passed bills as they are intended to benefit farmers in the coming future.
Three farm bills namely Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 were passed on Thursday, September 17 in the Lok Sabha. After the bills were passed, a huge number of farmers across several states protested against the ordinances promulgated by the Centre. Farmers across the country are demanding a rollback of the three farm bills as they fear that the bills will allow unscrupulous traders to enter the market.
Moreover, farmers fear that if any unjust practice happen, they won’t be able to take the issue to the civil court as the bill will set up a conciliation board to decide farmer trade disputes. However, the government stated that no farmer needs to fear the newly passed bills because they are made for farmers’ benefits.
