Facebook India Head Says Many Senior Executives Are Anti-BJP
Contrary to Rahul Gandhi’s claims, Facebook India Head Ajit Mohan said that many of his senior employees are anti-BJP.
Amidst allegations of Facebook favouring the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), the company’s India Managing Director, Ajit Mohan faced a parliamentary committee today on the topic of preventing the misuse of social and online news media platforms.
Contrary to the Congress party’s claims that the social media giant’s India office is pro BJP, Mohan stated that many senior employees are in fact, against the ruling party. The panel was led by senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and also included some members of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Tharoor had called for this discussion to hear the organization’s thoughts, following an explosive article by an international media house claiming that the Modi government members’ hate speeches were overlooked by Facebook.
Meanwhile, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, wrote a strong letter to Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg on 1 September, complaining that several personnel from Facebook India have used inappropriate words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some cabinet ministers. He also added that prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, pages of many right-wing supporters were deleted by the online admins, stressing that some Facebook senior executives are supporters of a certain political disposition.
In a related development, 453 accounts, 102 pages and 88 groups on Facebook and 107 Instagram accounts, all traced to Pakistan, that promote bigotry against India, have been suspended by the social networking leader.
