A few days back, a 40-45 kg explosive-laden car was seized in Pulwama. A joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army, and the CRPF swung into action after they received an input that a terrorist was moving with an explosive-laden car in Pulwama district. The security forces in J&K averted a major incident, like the 2019 Pulwama-like vehicle-borne attack, by chasing the car. After a thorough investigation, the police have found the owner of the car. It is reported that the explosive-laden car belonged to Hidayatullah Malik who is an active member of the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group. According to the police reports, Hidayatullah Malik is a resident of Sharatpora in Shopian who joined the militant ranks in July 2019.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar told reporters that, based on the inputs received from their intelligence resources, the security forces intercepted a white Hyundai Santro car in Rajpora of Pulwama. Various check posts were placed across the regions of Srinagar as per an ANI report. Further, he added that “It is a big success for police and security forces. We foiled this attack, which was similar to the 2019 Pulwama attack. The info generated by police and joint action averted a major tragedy.”

This incident could have turned disastrous like the Pulwama incident that took place on 14 February 2019, where a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora. The attack killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and the attacker, Adil Ahmad Dar. It is reported that the attack was planned by the Pakistan-based Islamist militant group named Jaish-e-Mohammed.
