Donald Trump Criticized For Suggestion Of Imposing Toll On Mexican Border-Crossing Cars
Trump had suggested that the resultant revenue from toll will help fund the border wall.
The United States Presidential elections are right around the corner and just like last time, the Mexican border wall seems to be an issue that Donald Trump will go to town with. The President has come under heavy fire from Mexican officials and border town residents after he suggested that new toll on cars from Mexico crossing into the US could be imposed in order to fund the building of this promised wall.
The Mayor of Ciudad Juarez, a Mexican city bordering the United States, said, “It seems to me that this is an election issue. Donald Trump is down in the polls. It was an issue that gave him votes in the last election. And now he is using it again in a desperate manner to try and secure the same votes.” Some residents have accused Trump of misrepresenting the plan, saying that instead of forcing Mexicans to pay, the toll should instead be levied on US citizens.
