Diwali 2020 is here and people around the country are already elated about the upcoming week-long festival. Diwali, for most people, starts with Dhanteras, which falls on November 13 this year. On this auspicious day, devotees purchase gold and silver while worshipping the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, Goddess Lakshmi. Choti Diwali and main Diwali will be celebrated on November 14 and November 15 respectively, which will one of the most important events of Diwali, Amavasya. Diwali celebrations across the country have been majorly hit due to the ongoing pandemic and the measures taken to curb it. Bursting of crackers has been completely prohibited by the government, which is expected to affect the celebrations to a great extent.

Dhanteras 2020

Diwali 2020 will commence on November 13, Thursday, with Dhanteras, which is a major part of the five-day festival according to the Hindu calendar. Dhanteras is also called Dhanatrayodashi in some parts of the country. This day is observed to honour Goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to bring in wealth and prosperity into every household. A number of devotees believe purchasing gold and silver on this day is extremely auspicious and hence jewellers see a huge spike in the market around this time. As per Drik Panchang, Dhanteras 2020 Muhurat starts from November 12 and ends on November 13, 2020. It stars at 11:00 am on Thursday and continues till 6:25 am on Friday morning.

If you are planning to purchase gold or silver, the best time would be between 4:18 pm and 5:39 pm. The evening Muhurat for Dhanteras begins right after, at 5:39 pm and ends at 8:57 pm late evening. If you buy gold around this time it is expected to bring in wealth, happiness, and growth.

Choti Diwali 2020

Choti Diwali is one of the most significant days of the year according to the Hindu calendar. In some parts of the country, it is called Krishna Chaturdashi or Narak Chaturdashi. The Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi, on this day, starts at 5:59 pm. The Chaturdashi Tithi for this auspicious occasion only closes on November 14 at 2:18 pm.

Lakshmi Puja 2020 and more

The shubh Muhurat for Lakshmi Puja begins on November 14 at 5:40 pm and will go on till 8:15 pm. Govardhan Puja or Annakut Puja will fall in the next few days. Other major days like Balipratipada, Bhai Dooj, Gujarati New Year and Vishwakarma Puja will also happen in the next few days of November 2020.
