Derek O’Brien And Other TMC Leaders Pushed Away From Meeting Hathras Victim’s Family
A delegation of Trinamool Congress led by Derek O’Brien was denied entry by the UP police to meet the Hathras victim’s family
A scuffle broke out between the members of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Uttar Pradesh authorities when the former tried to enter the Hathras district to meet with the family of the deceased 19-year-old Dalit rape victim.
The delegation comprising TMC Rajya Sabha Leader Derek O’Brien and Lok Sabha member Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar with a few others was stopped at just 1.5 kilometres away from the victim’s house. They had travelled more than 200 kilometres from Delhi to offer their condolences to the bereaved relatives of the girl.
Physical force was used by the police to stop the politicians from going further, despite requests by the TMC to at least allow the female representatives to enter the premises. According to Dastidar, the district magistrate had denied permission for the meeting. She further accused the Narendra Modi government of trying to hide the inefficiency of the Yogi Adityanath administration. She also called out the misrule that is now a part of Atmanirbhar India, where there is no security and safety for women and lower sections of society.
