The Delhi Police has tightened the security at Jantar Mantar after a group of 200 farmers have been allowed to peacefully protest from July 22 to August 9. Farmers are demanding scrapping of the agriculture laws during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.

At least 2,500 Delhi police officials along with 3,000 paramilitary personnel will remain deployed alone at the Singhu border. Anti-riot force, water cannons and tear gas are on standby to make all efforts to stop the anti-social elements get into the march.

While the Delhi government has approved farmers’ request of holding the protest, the Delhi Police said that it has not granted any written permission to the farmers so far.

The farmers who have been protesting against the contentious laws for the past 8 months at the Delhi borders will hold a ‘Kisan Parliament’ for 18 days. They will assemble every day from 8 am to 5 pm starting Thursday.
