Yeh Ballet director Sooni Taraporevala accuses Deepika Padukone’s apparel ad of plagiarism. Says, “This is intellectual theft!”
Deepika Padukone‘s name recently made headlines when a denim brand that she’s associated with was accused of plagiarism. Deepika who is currently seen as the brand ambassador for denim brand Levi’s shared a new ad for the brand on her Instagram profile. As the ad gained and more views, it reached ‘Yeh Ballet’ director Sooni Taraporevala. The director then accused Levi’s Ad of plagiarism calling it “Intellectual theft”.

This incident came to light when Sooni Taraporevala shared a post on her Instagram accusing denim brand Levi’s ad of copying the set design “to the very last detail” from her directorial venture titled, ‘Yeh Ballet’. She said that this ad was brought to her attention a couple of days ago by a friend, following which she decided to call out the brand for stealing their idea without any “permission/acknowledgment”.
Sooni Taraporevala wrote in her Instagram post, “I was shocked to see our Yeh Ballet dance studio set in this ad, because it was conceptualized & created out of a derelict space by Shailaja Sharma (our PD) from scratch. No such dance studio exists in Mumbai which is why we built it.”
In one of the screenshots shared, Rupin Suchak, the designer behind the set for Levi’s TVC, was asked by an Instagram user about the similarities between the sets to which he answered, “Yes, we did. In fact, that’s what our director wanted, so we had to recreate that.”
She also called out the copy culture in India and said that it needs to be canceled.
