Ever since the lockdown has been announced, the movie production spaces have been officially ‘closed’ and all talents have been quarantined. It’s really tough time for the film industry globally with film festivals, movies going online, and the cinemas being shut. As the industry faces an uncertain economic future, recently the Malayalam Producers’ Association had decided to initiate a conversation by requesting their A-list actors and technicians to cut their fees by at least 50 per cent. Now after the Malayalam film industry, Tamil Cinema is also planning for a similar move.

Watch Rajinikanth’s exclusive interview here:

Yes, you read that right! Reportedly, Tamil film producers too have decided to request the industry top filmmakers, actors and technicians to reduce their salary by 50 per cent. A couple of months ago, the producer-turned-actor J Satish Kumar aka JSK took to social media to suggest his industry folks to volunteer to take a pay cut (reduce at least 30 per cent) until everything returns to normalcy.

Taking to Twitter, JSK had written, “I kindly request the following on behalf of the entire Tamil film industry during this time of crisis and for the welfare of our industry. Let’s join hands and support ourselves. Thank you (sic)”

Check out the tweet here:

Later, in another post, JSK revealed that some of the tops actors and filmmakers did volunteer to take a pay cut. However, we wonder if Kollywood’s biggies like Rajinikanth, Ajith, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Suriya, among others will be interested in volunteering. Meanwhile, before JSK took to social media request these top stars, actors like Vijay Antony and Harish Kalyan had already made an announcement regarding the pay cut.

Reportedly Vijay Anthony and Harish have volunteered to take a pay cut for the welfare of the producers in these difficult times. Meanwhile, as per the latest reports, recently filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu (Vikram starrer Cobra’s director) has reduced his salary by 40 per cent for the film. It is really a big deal since 40 per cent pay cut reportedly amounts to about rupees 1.25 crores.

While producers have expressed their opinion on this, Rajinikanth, Ajith, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Suriya, among others, who are the leading stars of the Tamil Cinema, are yet to react to the decision suggested by the producers.
