Civilians Targeted By Pak Shelling Along LoC In Poonch; One Woman Killed
The shelling took place from across the Balakote and Mendhar sectors, claiming one and injuring two civilians.
In a fresh incident of unprovoked violations of the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LOC), civilians were targeted by shelling and firing by Pakistan. One woman was killed, while two other civilians were injured in the incident which took place in Pir Panjal’s Poonch district in the early hours of Wednesday morning. An army official has revealed that unprovoked small arms firing and shelling was being done by Pakistan along the LoC in the Balakote and Mendhar sectors at about 2 a.m. Officials have said that the injured were rushed to the Government Medical College, Rajouri, but one woman succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Rashim Bi, 65, a resident of Lanjoite Balakote. No army personnel were injured in the incident. This is one of the several ceasefire violations that Pakistan routinely performs without any provocation. Last month, India had lost five soldiers along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors due to Pakistani shelling.
