Bus Falls Into 20 Feet Canal In Siddhi, Madhya Pradesh; 47 Killed
Siddhi bus accident: Bus travelling from Siddhi to Satna falls into the canal. 21 dead and 40 missing.
More than 40 people went missing after a bus loaded with passengers fell into a canal on Tuesday morning in Siddhi, Madhya Pradesh. The bus was filled with more than 55 passengers. A rescue operation was conducted at the canal. Earlier, four dead bodies were found near the canal, now the count has reached 47. Seven people have been rescued who managed to swim and come out of the canal.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has dismissed the cabinet meeting because of the same. A special meeting has been organised by the CM to take proper measures. The bus was travelling from Siddhi to Satna in Madhya Pradesh. The bus landed into the canal near Patna village, around 80 kms away from the Siddhi district headquarter, around 8:30 AM.
CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan has asked to fasten the rescue process. He had also asked to stop the dam water to ease the process. All the Government officials are keeping a close check on the matter. Chouhan on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the kins of the people who died in a bus accident in Siddhi out of which Rs 10,000 each have been given to them immediately.
The driver — identified as Balendra Vishwakarma, a resident of Hardua village under Semaria police station of the district — was arrested from Satna district. Satna SP Dharmveer Singh said, “The accused was arrested late in the night from Basti area of Satna district and was handed over to the Siddhi police.”
