Sagar Sarhadi was a writer, director, producer and he also wrote short stories and plays. He is popularly known for his films like Kabhi Kabhie and Silsila. The writer passed away on March 22 at the age of 88. He was suffering from an illness for a long time and passed away at his Sion residence. Several Bollywood celebrities took to their Instagram handle to pay him a tribute. Here’s everything you need to know about Sagar Sarhadi and his movies.

Sagar Sarhadi passes away at the age of 88

Sagar Sarhadi was born on 11 May 1933 in Baffa which is now in Pakistan. He began his writing career by writing Urdu short stories. He got his big break as a writer for the film Kabhi Kabhie directed by Yash Chopra. The film starred actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Wahima Rehman, Rakhee and Neetu Singh.

He later went on to write some Bollywood blockbusters like Noorie and Silsila starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Rekha in the lead role. He then wrote Chandni starring Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi and Vinod Khanna and Faasle starring Sunil Dutt, Rekha, Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval. In 1993 he wrote Rang starring  Kamal Sadanah and Divya Bharti. His Urdu playwrights are loved by his fans even today. He made his directorial debut with Chausar which starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amruta Subhash.

Celebrities paid a tribute to the veteran writer 

Several  Bollywood actors and directors paid tribute to the veteran writer by sharing his picture on their Instagram handles. Actor Jackie Shroff wrote that he would miss the writer. He shared an old picture of his from his active days in films. Director Hansal Mehta known also paid him a tribute. He wrote, “Rest in peace, Sagar Sarhadi Sahab,” while mourning his death. Actor Hritik Roshan also remembered him for his work in his debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. He wrote that he will be forever indebted to the writer as he wrote the dialogues of the film.
