Basis BJYM Bengal Secretary Pamela Goswami’s allegations of Rakesh Singh’s involvement in framing her in a drugs case, the latter was arrested from the state’s East Burdwan district yesterday when he was headed to Delhi
West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rakesh Singh was arrested yesterday in connection with the Pamela Goswami drugs case. He was intercepted by the police around 125 kilometers away from Kolkata in the Galsi area of the East Burdwan district while he was trying to leave the state in his luxury car. The authorities also detained his two sons separately when they stopped the cops from entering their home earlier.
A high-level drama unfolded at the Singh residence, with the BJP member’s daughter Simran Singh alleging political conspiracy and accusing the police of kidnapping her brothers. She further said that the investigating team landed at her doorstep without a search warrant against her father. Singh was to appear for questioning related to the narcotics case at 4 pm yesterday. He however wrote an email to the police, citing that he was traveling to Delhi and would be available after 26 February, till which time his lawyers would represent him.
Pamela Goswami, state secretary of West Bengal’s Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) was arrested last Friday and sent to a five-day police remand after she was found in possession of around 100 grams of cocaine. During her court hearing, she openly alleged that Rakesh Singh, a close aide of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had framed her deliberately and even went on to allege that the drug packets were planted by him in her vehicle. While being escorted to the police van, she was heard screaming and demanding for a CBI enquiry into the matter.
