Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) West Bengal President, Dilip Ghosh faced aggression from rival party protesters during his visit to the state’s Jaigaon area on Thursday. Ghosh’s convoy was pelted with stones and he was greeted with black flags, amidst slogans of asking him to return from the Alipurduar district by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers.

While he escaped unhurt, his car suffered some damages. The BJP condemned the attack and blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party workers for the violence. The police managed to get the situation under control. Ghosh later told the media that the TMC is adopting undemocratic methods as they fear their loss in the upcoming elections. He also added that the law and order situation in the state is totally out of control.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said that the Trinamool Congress ruled state is showing no signs of reduction in political violence. Adding that public servants have become political workers, the governor said that the situation cannot continue like this.
