BJP To Meet CEC In Delhi Today, First List Of WB Candidates Expected To Be Released
PM Modi is also likely to join the discussion in Delhi that will include BJP Bengal heavyweights including Dilip Ghosh, Kailash Vijayvargiya and Suvendu Adhikari
Top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will convene in Delhi today to finalise the names of candidates contesting in the upcoming legislative assembly elections in West Bengal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to join this meeting where the first list of the participants is likely to be released. According to sources, the saffron party members have proposed four to five names per constituency.
Members of the party’s core committee from Bengal, including state president Dilip Ghosh, senior politician Kailash Vijayvargiya and former Trinamool Congress turned BJP heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari are in the capital for the 11 am conference with the Central Election Committee (CEC). While it is not sure if Adhikari will field against his erstwhile chief, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee from the Nandigram district, ahead of his Delhi visit, he declared that irrespective of who contests against her, he will ensure her defeat.
Meanwhile, the ECI gave the central government a deadline of 72 hours to remove the PM’s hoardings informing people of various central schemes from petrol pumps in West Bengal. This order came following a complaint by a delegation of the TMC on Wednesday, citing that the ads are a violation of poll ethics.
