The Tamil Nadu Government has ordered severe restrictions on Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations this year looking at the COVID-19 crisis. Although, BJP leaders have chosen to attack the ruling party over this decision. On his Twitter, BJP IT Wing Chief in Tamil Nadu, Nirmal Kumar, made a sexist remark, saying that the AIADMK leaders were “impotent” because they were hiding behind a saree for 30 years and only regained potency after meeting their leader in Delhi.

H Raja, the National Secretary of the BJP added fuel to the fire by saying that the Karnataka Government has allowed the installation of Ganesh statues at public places and also immersion of the idols because it’s a government that is run by “potent people.” Ganesh Chaturthi falls on August 22 and most states have placed curbs on the festivities this year given the dangers revolving around large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
