BJP Announces Five Parivartan Rath Yatras In Bengal Ahead Of Legislative Elections

With just two months to go for the West Bengal legislative elections, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) announced five Parivartan Rath Yatras over the next ten days as a part of their strategy to gather more prospective voters in the state. BJP National President JP Nadda will flag off the first tour on 6 February from Nabadwip, while he will reportedly return to Kolkata on 9 February to supervise another part of this campaign.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also travel to Bengal’s Coochbehar region to inaugurate a yatra on 11 February. Apart from this, he will address a rally in the Thakur Bari district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving no stone unturned to win the eastern state either, with him paying a visit to the port city of Haldia on 7 February.

A high-profile meeting was held at BJP West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh’s residence on Tuesday evening with new BJP-inducted and former Trinamool Congress ministers Suvendu Adhikari and Rajib Banerjee also in attendance. Speaking to the media, Ghosh said that five yatras have been planned till now, for which permission will be sought from the state’s administration. He further said that if they are not allowed to proceed with the events, they may approach the court for its intervention.

There are approximately 294 seats in the Bengal Vidhan Sabha out of which the saffron party has its eyes on at least 200 seats.
