BHU Missing Student Case: Allahabad HC Summons Varanasi Police

The Allahabad High Court has reprimanded the Varanasi Police in the case of a student of Kashi/Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who went missing from Lanka station of Varanasi. It has summoned Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varanasi with a personal affidavit till September 3. The court has asked the SSP, what action the police took when the student called the police station on February 12 and ran away the next day? The court has directed them to file full written details of what the police has done in this case, till the next week.

Shiv Kumar Trivedi, a student of SY B.Sc at BHU, has not been found since February 13, 2020. A resident of Brajpur village in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, Trivedi was taken to the police on February 12. He has been missing since then. His father Pradeep Kumar Trivedi has been looking for him since six months. This order has been given by the bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice SD Singh on the basis of a PIL filed by advocate Saurabh Tiwari. On August 19, the court has issued notices to District Magistrate (DM), SSP Varanasi and Lanka Police Station In-Charge seeking complete information about the missing student.
