Assam Floods Escalate, Death Toll Reaches 87
Assam flood situation still grim with 24 lakh people affected in 24 districts.
The flood situation in Assam is turning worse day by day. Heavy rains have increased the water level of the Brahmaputra, leading to the natural calamity in many districts. Severe flood alert warnings have been issued in the area. The river is expected to rise another 30cm in the next 24 hours. So far, 24 lakh people have been affected in 24 districts of Assam and 87 people have lost their lives. According to sources, around 44,000 people have been shifted to relief camps while 116 animals have lost their lives in Kaziranga National Park. Seeing the damage caused by these floods, the United Nations have granted necessary help and assistance to the state.
Severe floods have also affected the state of Bihar. Thousands of people have been affected and several regions in the state are damaged miserably. Locals in the affected regions blame government authorities for not taking necessary measures prior to the disaster.
