On Tuesday, the Mumbai court has said that an arrest warrant will be issued against the actress if she again skips the hearing for Javed Akhtar defamation case on the next date, September 20.
For an unversed, Javed Akhtar had filed the defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in November for the remarks she made about him during a TV interview while speaking about actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. In his complaint, Akhtar claimed that the Tanu weds Manu actress had dragged his name during an interview while referring to a ‘coterie’ existing in Bollywood, following the alleged suicide committed by actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June last year. Kangana Ranaut had reportedly told a news portal that Farhan Akhtar was part of a suicide gang and that he can get away with pretty much anything in Mumbai.
When the matter came up for hearing in the Mumbai court, Kangana’s lawyer Rizwan Siddique sought that she be exempted from appearance for the day as she was not in pink health. Her lawyer also submitted a medical certificate before the court and said the actor has been traveling for the promotion of her film. At that time the actress has developed COVID-19 symptoms.
Javed Akhtar’s lawyer, Jay Bharadwaj was quick to react to the medical reports submitted by Kangana’s lawyer. Akhtar’s lawyer, Jay Bharadwaj described the medical reports as a tactic to delay the proceedings. The lawyer also added that Kangana Ranaut has brought up multiple reasons for not appearing before the court since the court orders were issued to her in February. Lawyer Bharadwaj also said that no higher court has granted protection to Ranaut, or ordered stopped the proceedings against her. He also pointed out that Akhtar has appeared before the court on every date of hearing.
After hearing the submissions in the court, metropolitan magistrate RR Khan allowed Kangana Ranaut to be exempted from appearance for the day. He then posted the matter for hearing on September 20. The magistrate said if the actor fails to appear at the next hearing, a warrant will be issued against her.
