Studios are quietly replacing Johnny Depp from movies
All is not well with Captain Jack Sparrow. The private life of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard coming out in open has caused much turmoil to the actor. After Johnny Depp lost his legal suit against a British tabloid that called him a wife-beater. Things are not sailing smoothly for the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Johnny Depp has told media that he feels boycotted in Hollywood. In an interview with ‘The Sunday Times’, he said he had an unpleasant and chaotic situation and he is in the path of bringing things to light.
What had happened
Johnny Depp married Amber Heard in 2015 after ending his relationship with Vanessa Paradis. A year later, Amber Heard filed for divorce and obtained restraining orders against Johnny Depp. They both charged each other with verbal abuse and domestic violence.
A settlement was reached and they were formally divorced in 2017. Amber also dismissed the restraining order with the duo stating their relationship.
A Tabloid had called Johnny Depp wife-beater!
A British Tabloid published an article calling him a wife-beater in April 2018. Johnny Depp dragged the tabloid to court and the trial was held in 2020. The High Court of Justice ruled that the allegations Amber Heard made against Johnny Depp were true. His appeal to overturn the verdict was rejected Court of Appeal in March 2021.
The allegations of boycott
Following the court verdict, Johnny Depp resigned from Fantastic Beasts franchise as asked by the production company Warner Bros. The ardent fans of Johnny Depp staged a protest marching to the virtual gates of the studio. They demanded an unbiased move towards his ex-wife Amber Heard.
But it is believed that Warner Bros have roped in Amber Heard in two more of their Aquaman projects. She is to reprise Mera in both of these flicks. In such a case, the production house seems to be determined to back Amber. Disney Studios has also apparently dropped Johnny Depp from their Pirates of Caribbean 6.
As per the latest announcement, Johnny Depp will be honored with Donostia Award at San Sebastian Film Festival this month. The award is given for his lifetime contribution to the film industry. Even this award is shadowed by the allegations of domestic violence.
