It was filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar who decided to highlight Raakh at the Bandra Fim Festival. Nambiar shared how the 1989 crime drama is a “master-class” in filmmaking and has inspired several filmmakers.

Even after more than 30 years of its release, Aamir Khan starrer Raakh continues to inspire new-age filmmakers. The crime drama which hit the big screens in 1989 still remains to be one of the classic films of all time. And as a tribute to the makers and actors involved in this project, Raakh is currently being screened at the Bandra Film Festival. The film fest is being held virtually amid the pandemic and the audience can catch up with the film on the official website.

It was filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar who decided to highlight Raakh at the Bandra Film Festival. For those unversed, the 1989 classic was helmed by Aditya Bhattacharya and is one of the most acclaimed movies of that era. Nambiar, who has been closely associated with Bhattacharya on several film projects shared his love for Raakh. He shared how Raakh is a “master-class” in filmmaking and has inspired a whole generation of filmmakers including him.

Nambiar also cites how the film Raakh is perfect with performances, technical wizardry, storytelling, etc. Talking about the story of the film revolves around a young man who seeks revenge on a gang of criminals who raped his girlfriend. Unlike mainstream revenge sagas, Raakh was a character-oriented story and thus remains to be in the league of its own.

Aamir Khan played the lead character in the film which earned him a National Award under the ‘Special Mention’ category. Also, the film featured Pankaj Kapur, Supriya Pathak, and Homi Wadia in pivotal roles. Raakh also bagged National Award for Best Editing in the year 1989. Moreover, director Aditya Bhattacharya still feels overwhelmed by the response on his debut project.

For those unversed, Bhattacharya shot Raakh when he was 24-years-old. Also, the film marked Aamir Khan’s second project after Ketan Mehta’s Holi.

If you are looking forward to watching Raakh, the film is being screened at Bandra Film Festival.
