Take a look at a list of 15 moments that will reinforce within you the privilege of being a daughter or being associated with one.

Tujhse Hai Raabta

Kalyani (Reem Shaikh) is a selfless and devoted daughter. Despite having differences with her stepmother Anupriya (Poorva Gokhale), she tries to teach her how to speak and write in English. When her aai gives up, Kalyani punishes herself. Anupriya cannot stand any pain that her daughter endures and tries putting in the effort to learn in what turns out to be a sweet and funny moment.

While tending to Anupriya’s wound, Kalyani vows to restore her mother’s dignity in the family. She asks her about the injury, but Anupriya doesn’t blame anyone. Kalyani remembers the promise she had made to her father and ascertains that she will make a place in Anupriya’s heart, no matter how hard she tries to push her away.

In Tujhse Hai Raabta, not much is shown about Kalyani and Madhuri after the latter dies. However, in this one episode, it is clear how Kalyani and Madhuri were more of friends than mother-daughter. When she catches a guy ogling at her mother, she reprimands him and teaches him to respect women. Madhuri and Kalyani’s bond is surely relatable to every other mother-daughter duo.

Hitler Didi

Indira (Rati Pandey) is the sole bread-winner, feeding a family of six. While she might be called Hitler Didi, she has a heart of gold. One who stands for what is right, everyone fears Indira’s wrath. Essaying the role of a fierce woman, she is punctual, sincere and dedicated towards her work and family in equal measure.

Indira is the epitome of professionalism and does not tolerate any nonsense at work. When a clingy new colleague tries to make advances towards her, she takes him to the manager’s office and reprimands him. Indira’s work is her priority and she does not tolerate anyone messing with her during her office time.

When a sleazy hooligan eveteases Indira, she slaps him. This emphasises on the need to speak up about eveteasing and catcalling, issues that every girl or woman faces. It also sets a precedence for others to follow the same and take a stand against those who endanger women’s freedom and independence.

Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan

A show that is women-centric and based on the daughters of a household, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan strikes a deep chord. Daughters are the apple of their father’s eyes. This is portrayed in the episode where Durga is about to get married. Her father exclaims the pride he feels to have such daughters who are his pillars of strength.

When Sarawati is charged for murder, it is her mother Savitri who speaks up for her. A mother would never let anyone blemish her daughter’s reputation. The show highlights how women should speak up against domestic violence and maltreatment. When one whole family is united in support of a daughter, then this positive force stands to win.

Savitri, with her four daughters, plan a trap to teach Bhavishya a lesson. Durga cries for help and calls Bhavishya to the Durga’s cave, where he would meet the women of Garodia family. When the power of women unites, one can either expect prosperity or destruction. Bhavishya had the latter written in his fate. He would be punished for his evil scheming and plotting against Durga.

Bitti Business Wali

When Bitti (Prakruti Mishra) gets her first salary, her boss praises her performance and tells her that she has a very bright future ahead of her. However, Bitti’s definition of happiness is somewhat different. She doesn’t splurge on herself but buys all her family members different gifts of their liking. Set in the small city of Varanasi, Bitti gets elated in seeing her family enjoy themselves.

Coming from a conservative family that does not support girls doing a job, Bitti shatters the stereotype. When her father loses his job, Bitti takes it upon herself to shoulder his responsibilities. She is not afraid to speak her mind in front of her brothers or her orthodox grandmother. With a smiling face, she sets out into the world seeking everyone’s blessing to become an independent woman and to make it on her own.

When Shaurya is placed first in a debate competition in his college, he credits Bitti for his victory. In the debate, he speaks about how women should be treated on par with men. The show intends to reinstate the importance of gender equality. Just because men have jobs and are breadwinners of a family, this does not give them any right to exercise control over anyone. The same amount of household chores done by the women goes unappreciated. Bitti talks about cashing out a certain amount to the women who can run the house on their own terms.

Afsar Bitiya

In a time when society preferred fair-skinned girls, Krishna (Mitali Nag) takes pride in her dark complexion. External looks do not matter to her. She outdid herself by studying diligently and became an IAS officer. Along with holding an important position, Krishna retains a feeling of humility in her family. Upholding high principles, morals and values, Krishna is the manifestation of an ideal daughter that intends to change the society for the better.

Krishna shows her mettle by addressing the grievances of a chaotic crowd of protestors who disrupt her interview. Seeing the calm with which she resolves this issue greatly impressed the jury. They agreed to the fact that she would make for a great IAS officer, who is aware of the law.

A daughter is her father’s biggest hope. Similarly, while the whole society defames and mocks at Krishna’s aspirations, it is her father who stands by her side and encourages her. Since their financial situation did not permit her father to pursue his dreams, he hopes that his daughter is able to achieve what she desires. Like a daughter who reveres her father, Krishna vows to clear her IAS examination and make her father proud.
