2.42 Lakh Rape Cases Have Been Registered In India From 2013 To 2019

Right after two days of International Daughters Day which was celebrated with great pride and enthusiasm on September 27, a 20-year-old young girl’s life in India was brutally snuffed out. The innocent Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped and tortured in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras by a group of upper-caste men. 15 days later, the girl succumbed to severe injuries in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. According to the reports. in the last two months, she was the fifth girl and third Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh who was allegedly raped and brutally murdered. A study on rapes in India reveals that from the year 2013 to 2019, around 2.42 lakh rape cases have been registered in India. In every four hours, a woman is raped in India, which means every day 95 rape cases take place in the nation.
Data also states that in the last ten years, rape cases in India have spiked by 31 per cent. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are among the top two states with the highest number of rape cases.
