When Seth Rogen stepped out to present at the 73rd Annual Emmy Awards on Sunday night, he didn’t hold back. He immediately criticised the evening’s setup, which took place while COVID-19 continues around the world

At the 2021 Emmy Awards, Seth Rogen presented the first award of the night and promptly criticized the show for allegedly failing to follow the COVID health and safety measures it had pledged.

“Let me start by saying, there’s way too many of us in this little room. What are we doing? They said this was outdoors. It’s not,” he said. “They lied to us. We’re in a hermetically sealed tent right now. I would not have come to this. Why is there a roof? It’s more important that we have three chandeliers than that we make sure we don’t kill Eugene Levy tonight. That is what has been decided.”

He added, “This is insane. I went from wiping my groceries to Paul Bettany sneezing in my face. So, that’s a big week! If anyone’s gonna sneeze in my face, Paul, I want it to be you.” People assumed everyone was fully spiraling behind the scenes after Seth’s comments calling out the Emmys trended on Twitter not long after his comments calling out the Emmys.

The Event Deck at LA Live, an indoor-outdoor venue, would host the Emmy Awards in 2021. The annual television awards used to be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Television Academy announced in a statement prior to the event that “the health and safety of our nominees are of paramount concern.” “Conversations are ongoing, and we will update you as soon as more information becomes available. As we continue to traverse the COVID-19 delta version, the Television Academy appreciates everyone’s patience.”
