The Loki actor Owen Wilson is all set to return to Disney in a comedy role with their movie Haunted Mansion
Owen Wilson, who starred in the Marvel Cinematic series ‘Loki,’ is poised to star in Disney’s new cinematic rendition of the classic theme park attraction ‘The Haunted Mansion.’ In the project, which is touted as an ensemble piece, the actor joins previously confirmed cast members Tiffany Haddish and LaKeith Stanfield.
According to sources, plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but the film will revolve around a family who moves into the titular mansion. The latest adaptation is scripted by Katie Dippold and will be directed by Justin Simien, who is known for “Dear White People” and “Bad Hair.”
The original and the new
The Haunted Mansion is based on the haunted theme park experience that debuted in 1969 at Disneyland. It brought visitors on a scary tour of a haunted mansion replete with ghosts, monsters, and other undead occupants. It was also one of the few Disney attractions where the personnel was not allowed to smile. Through their Rideback label, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce the film. Nick Reynolds of Rideback will serve as executive producer. Shooting is expected to begin next month in Atlanta.
2003 The Haunted Mansion was a family-friendly horror comedy film starring Eddie Murphy and was based on the amusement park attraction. The studio’s most recent hit, ‘Jungle Cruise,’ was likewise based on a theme park ride. The film’s sequel, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, was just greenlit by Disney.
Other Disney adventures
Other popular Disney rides, like Space Mountain and Town of Terror, are being adapted into films. The actor will next be seen in Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch,’ directed by one of his frequent collaborators. He’s also finished filming ‘Marry Me,’ a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez.
Owen Wilson currently plays the role of Mobius Mobius – a bureaucrat on the Loki series and is middle management for the Time Variance Authority (a fictional organization, a group of timeline monitors) in the Marvel Universe.
