Marvel’s Eternals has surpassed expectations. This gives the Chloé Zhao-directed film the distinction of having the second-largest global opening for a Hollywood film in 2021

It’s raining cash for Eternals all across the world. With an opening weekend of $90.7 million at the foreign box office and $161.7 million worldwide when combined with domestic, Marvel’s Eternals has surpassed expectations. This gives the Chloé Zhao-directed film the distinction of having the second-largest global opening for a Hollywood film in 2021. In like-for-like markets, Eternals is 26 percent ahead of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and 8 percent ahead of Black Widow.

Eternals debuted at the top of the charts in every major market. In Italy, Brazil, and Hong Kong, it now has the largest launch window during the pandemic. It was the best opening weekend for a non-local film in Korea during the epidemic, which is notable.

To be fair, Eternals has a low score in a lot of categories, and the film’s reception has been rough. Still, European markets were stable over the weekend, and there is less fear about frontloading now than there was in the early days of offshore implementation. This isn’t to say that the tide won’t turn.

Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Mexico, and Australia are the top five international markets at the moment. Eternals grossed $6 million in IMAX from 320 screens in 58 markets. Returning to James Bond, No Time To Die grossed $524.3 million worldwide this weekend from a total of 72 Universal and MGM territories. It has now surpassed Avengers: Endgame as the fifth highest grossing film in the UK. The overseas weekend brought in $27.2 million, bringing the global total to $667.1 million, with $42.3 million coming from IMAX, making it the format’s second-highest grossing picture this year.

Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan also star in Eternals. The opening weekend has given a huge hope to the makers and they are excited for their upcoming projects.
