Tibetan Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama Gets His First COVID-19 Vaccination Shot In Dharamshala

In the latest development, Dalai Lama received the first-dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday morning.

The Tibetian spiritual leader Dalai Lama stepped out for the first time in a year for his first COVID-19 vaccination. He received the first dose of the anti-coronavirus vaccine at Zonal Hospital in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala on Saturday morning.

In an official tweet, the Dalai Lama’s office thanked the Government of India and the Himachal Pradesh dispensation for facilitating the first dose of the vaccine for the spiritual leader. Dalai Lama was administered the vaccination in the morning to avoid security concerns. After getting inoculated, he urged people to come forward in large numbers and get themselves vaccinated for the greater benefit. In a video message, Dalai Lama said that, “in order to prevent the very serious problem, this injection is very helpful. Everyone should get this injection”.

Earlier, the Himachal Pradesh CMO informed that the Central Tibetan Administration (the Tibetan government in exile) has requested to vaccinate the Dalai Lama and other Tibetans in the state. He said that the decision is under process and it would be taken soon. The request to vaccinate the 14th Dalai Lama, who has been under home-quarantine, was received by the state’s CMO two months ago. Himachal Pradesh CMO said that the matter was under discussion and later Dalai Lama was vaccinated on 6 March 2021.

India began the world’s largest vaccination drive by inoculating those above 60 yrs of age & those above 45 yrs with co-morbidities apart from Frontline workers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his first dose of vaccination on 1st March, 2021. Later, several Government officials took the vaccination jab. Recently, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced free vaccination for Delhi residents after getting his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
