Russians are set ready to shoot the first ever movie in space: “The Challenge”

A Russian actor and director turned up at the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday in an attempt to defeat the United States and shoot the very first movie in space, beating Tom Cruise in the race.

The Russian team is on pace to break a Hollywood venture announced last year by Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise, NASA, and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. They will board the Soyuz MS-19 rocket, which is scheduled to dock at the station at 12:12 GMT, at an altitude of around 220 miles (354 km).

Russia is on track to beat the United States in the latest chapter of the space race, thanks to the launch of the film ‘The Challenge. ‘ Last year, NASA announced Cruises’ plans to launch on a SpaceX rocket for an untitled Hollywood film. Actress Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko will reach space ventures ahead of Tom Cruise. The plot revolves around a female surgeon who is sent to the International Space Station to save an astronaut. During his fortnight living and working on the orbital platform, director Klim Shipenko, who will also act in the film, initially described the film as “an experiment,” adding that “nobody to get guidance from.” Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia’s space agency, is a co-producer of ‘The Challenge”, which features Russian cosmonauts on the station.

After successfully blasting off into space, the Russian actress and director Klim Shipenko will spend 12 days filming aboard the International Space Station. French station commander Thomas Pesquet and other astronauts will be waiting to greet them. To be ready for the mission, both Shipenko and Peresild had to go through three months of training. Understanding the fundamentals of space survival, completing zero gravity, followed by centrifugation, and vibration tests, and practicing for in-flight emergencies were all part of the program.
