With less than ten days to the Bihar assembly polls, the state’s political alliances are in a confused state. Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) President Chirag Paswan walked out from the state’s National Democratic Alliance and has not ceased from attacking Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The 37-year-old Paswan announced that his party will win more seats than the current state government and lead Bihar.

While the son of late veteran politician Ram Vilas Paswan refers to himself as Prime Minister Modi’s loyalist,  BJP leaders like Prakash Javadekar and Bhupendra Yadav believe otherwise. Certain senior BJP politicians have called Chirag a vote-katua, a term used for vote-hungry party contestants in the state. The young Dalit leader reacted to the slur used on him, saying that he was hurt by these comments and these have been made by the party to appease Janata Dal (Unuited) leader Nitish Kumar. He also added that people are free to criticise him as long as it is respectful criticism and not abusive.

The JD(U) has meanwhile said that the LJP alliance was never an important one before the elections and will not be of any use during or after the polls. Some leaders from the BJP have also claimed that parties like LJP and the Lalu Prasad Yadav run Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are solely around with a motive of spreading rumours and creating confusion in the minds of the voters.
