4 Dead, 4 Injured As Speeding Car Rams Into Mumbai’s Café Janata
The Mumbai police team reached the spot soon after the accident and all of the injured were rushed to the nearby JJ Hospital.
Four people were killed and four others injured after a speeding car rammed into the pavement outside the Café Janata Restaurant near Crawford Market in Mumbai on Monday (August 31). The automobile rammed into a group of people who were sitting outside the restaurant on the footpath. A police team reached the spot soon after the accident and all injured were rushed to the nearby JJ Hospital. The car driver, identified as Sameer Diggy, also sustained injuries. According to the police, three months ago, Diggy had been booked in another car accident by the JJ Marg Police, when he had rammed into a truck but there were no casualties.
Of the four dead, three succumbed on the spot. The four have been identified as Saroja Naida (65), Zubeda Abdul Khan (60), Saira Banu (60) and Mohamed Naeem (55). The four injured and the driver Diggy are undergoing treatment at the JJ Hospital. A passerby, Asad Qureshi, said sometime after 9 p.m., he saw a white Maruti Esteem speeding towards the JJ flyover from Metro Cinema signal. It first hit two women near Sadanand Hotel in Crawford Market. “The car was at such a speed, it dragged the two women till Café Janata, where it smashed into the wall,” Qureshi, a mobile shop owner said.
