Southern California has been hit with a massive bushfire that has led to destruction of forests spanning more than ten thousands acres. Images from the area show smoke billowing high in the air, while the never-ending flames make their way across open bushlands and up into the surrounding hills of Lake Hughes. Reports indicate that the fire started mid-afternoon on Wednesday and it is being feared to be on the course of the Los Angeles National Forest that is home to a wealth of wildlife including cougars, black bears and coyotes.

Local firefighters have started tackling the worst affected areas of the fire, but over 6,000 acres of land has already burnt down, according to officials. Local National Forest authorities had already restricted campfire use as well as other cooking devices well before the fires started. What’s making things worse for the firefighters is the fact that there is no sign of rains in the weather forecast through the weekend and into the early part of next week.
