MAA President Manchu Vishnu Takes Oath As PresidentTollywood
Manchu Vishnu set off on a tumultuous two-year tenure as MAA president by taking the oath of office on October 16. He was engaged in a high stakes battle for the post with veteran actor Prakash Raj.
Manchu Vishnu Vardhan Babu, Tollywood actor, the newly elected Movie Artists’ Association (MAA) president, has taken the oath of office.
Talasani Shrinivas Yadav, Telangana minister for cinematography was the chief guest at the swearing-in ceremony. Mohan Babu, senior Tollywood actor, wife and children of Manchu Vishnu were among those in attendance. Manchu Vishnu succeeded character artist Naresh who was in charge of MAA since 2019.
Krishnamohan, returning officer of MAA elections administered the oath of office to Vishnu and his panel members and also distributed certificates to the executive committee members.
After prevailing over veteran actor Prakash Raj in a tense battle that saw some heated campaign, Manchu Vishnu finally took charge of the apex body of the Telugu film industry at the Film Nagar Cultural Centre at the upscale Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

This high stakes battle had both the Manchu Vishnu and Prakash Raj groups engaged in a no holds barred contest with the latter coming out on top. Incidentally, Manchu Vishnu assumed the office of the president of MAA at the association office on October 13 with the formal swearing-in scheduled for October 16.
Manchu Vishnu who signed on the pension files for MAA members after assuming office 72-hours ago, had sought the cooperation of all stakeholders in discharging his duties. Urging for the wishes and positivity from all, Manchu Vishnu set himself for a tumultuous two-year tenure, given the heat the MAA elections had generated in Tollywood.
Elections to MAA is held once every two years wherein 26 members are elected to this association. The 2021 elections to MAA generated unusual interest and the coverage for it was likened to one normally reserved for general or state assembly polls.
A miffed Prakash Raj not happy with the turn of events had tendered his resignation to the post of MAA membership after the results were announced. Manchu Vishnu had exhorted Prakash Raj ‘uncle’ not to take a hasty and emotional decision and reminded him that he was an integral part of the MAA family. “For the future. We are one. Always,” the actor had tweeted.
