In what will come as some respite for the entire world, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that there is hope for a COVID19 vaccine by this year end.

During his address at a special two-day session on the pandemic, the WHO Chief appealed to the world leaders to display solidarity and political commitment to ensure the equal distribution of the immunization, once it is available.

According to the international health body’s website, there are currently over 169 Coronavirus vaccine candidates that are under development, of which 26 are in the human trials phase. The organization is working with scientists, doctors and global institutes to speed up the response to the worldwide health crisis. The WHO sponsored COVAX will ensure that people across the globe will get equal access to the inoculation without any discrimination based on their wealth or status.

Earlier, Tedros had also urged governments of all the nations to come together as one to find an injection against the virus, rather than racing against each other to discover a solution first.
