Sonia Gandhi Pays Tribute to Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Her 103rd Birth Anniversary

The Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi, on Thursday, November 19, paid tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 103rd birth anniversary.

The Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi, on Thursday, November 19, paid tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 103rd birth anniversary. On the occasion, Sonia Gandhi along with party leader Rahul Gandhi visited the Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum. Born in November 1917, Indira Gandhi served as the Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977. Later she rose to power again in 1980 until her assassination in 1984. Indira Gandhi was the first and the only woman Prime Minister of India.

The Congress official Twitter handle praised the great leader by calling her a visionary. “A trailblazer, a visionary, a true leader and a great daughter of our motherland, Indira Gandhi was much more than a Prime Minister to our citizens; she was the revitalising strength in their quest for greatness and prosperity. Today, we pay a proud tribute to India’s Indira,” reads the Tweet.

The Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to his grandmother first by visiting the memorial. He then also, took to Twitter, to call the late politician and leader an efficient Prime Minister. “The whole country still gives the example of her impressive leadership, but I always remember her as my beloved grandmother. Her teachings inspire me constantly,” the former Congress chief said.

The Congress Party’s chief spokesperson and Party general secretary Randeep Surjewala on the occasion of Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary called her the ‘Iron lady’. “Known as the Iron lady across the world, the one with determination, courage and amazing ability, the first and only woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. My tributes to her on her birth anniversary,” he said.

Indira Gandhi was the daughter of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In October 1984, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh. They shot her with their service weapons in the garden of her residence.
