There is no doubt that Banto is evil and she can’t bear to see Heer or her family’s happiness. But behind this evil nature is a past–a past that still haunts her and has left permanent scars on her. Even her hateful eyes can shed tears of pain. Here is the story behind Banto’s misery.
The Past That Haunts Banto
When Banto’s daughter Pakko is about to get married to Murad from Balochistan, she looks relieved and happy. However, Pakko is unhappy as Ranjha creates a misunderstanding between Pakko and Heer. He comes to see Heer from Takht Hazara in a disguise of a bangle-seller and calls himself as Murad. Pakko thinks that her future husband has disguised himself and come to meet her in secret. However, Ranjha clarifies that he’s here for Heer and he is not Murad. This breaks Pakko’s heart and irks Heer too. So everyone in the house tries to cheer up Pakko. Malki brings a phulkari dupatta for Pakko, but as soon as Banto sees that dupatta… she tears it apart!
What Haunts Banto?
Heer and Pakko are busy in their conversation when suddenly, Banto shows up. She overhears their conversation and asks Pakko about the guy with whom she fell in love. Heer and Pakko tell the truth, and Banto is moved to tears. Heer asks Banto about her past, but she only says that she doesn’t want history to be repeated.
Banto tells them that she was about to get married to a Sultan. A phulkari dupatta was gifted to her by the Sultan of Multan. However, the Sultan fell in love with Banto’s friend Razia, and a few days before her wedding day, he married Razia. This news tarnished Banto’s family image and no one was ready to marry her. Heer’s father Shahji (Chuchak Chaudhary) was a good friend of Banto’s brother. He arranged her marriage with his brother, and that’s how she became the choti bahu of Heer’s family.
So this is one chapter of Banto’s life that still haunts her. She doesn’t want her daughter to go through all this. Banto warns Pakko not get involved with a lover as it can put her family’s image at stake. However, Pakko’s fiancé also meets with a similar fate and her marriage also gets cancelled! That’s why Banto’s thoughts are filled with negativity and she turns eviler and eviler.
This might be the only time when you feel bad for Banto as, with time, her deeds get worse and she turns out to be the biggest obstacle in Heer’s life. Banto and Kaido (Rahul Jaitly) are sure to create chaos in Heer and Ranjha’s love story. Are you ready for it? Share your thoughts about Banto in the comment section below.
