COVID-19 Update: India Records Lowest COVID-19 Toll In Over 5 Months

India recorded the lowest COVID-19 death toll in over five months. The fatality rate dropped significantly this week as compared to the previous ones. New infection rates too declined drastically. India witnessed a significant drop in its COVID-19 death toll and recorded the lowest number in over 5 months. As per the report, India’s weekly death toll was recorded at 2,789 in the last seven days. This is a steep drop of 21% as compared to the previous week. The report also stated that fresh COVID cases declined by 16%. The last time India reported such a low tally of cases was in the month of July.
According to a news portal, weekly COVID-19 cases have fallen by nearly 30% since Diwali week. The deaths due to COVID-19 have reduced to 20%. India recorded the lowest single-day count of 27, 376 new cases on Sunday. This has been the lowest toll since July. At present, India has recorded 98,84,699 COVID cases. Kerala’s highest cases were recorded at 4,698 new infections while Maharashtra marked 3,717 cases. On the other hand, Bengal and Delhi reported 2,580 and 1,984 new infections respectively.
India has now geared up for the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. The centre is now planning a systematic approach for the vaccine drive as it requires utmost care. Recently, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan stated that the vaccine will be available in the coming weeks. However, he strictly specified that there will be no compromise on the regulatory norms and safety of the vaccine. The vaccine needs to be stored under cold temperatures. Meanwhile, Mumbai has formed around 500 teams that will help to administer the vaccine in the state. On the other hand, Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Saturday that the state of Kerala would vaccinate its citizens for free.
While India has reported a drop in the cases, the US COVID-19 count has touched the 1-Crore and 65 lakhs mark. On the other hand, Brazil reported around 68,89,084 cases and Mexico recorded a death toll of around 1,13,704 deaths in the country. The global count has crossed around 72.1 million cases so far.
