“No Time to Die” will apparently be the first film in James Bond’s  60-year history to include a female 007, played by “Captain Marvel” breakout Lashana Lynch, when it releases on September 30. The actor plays Nomi, a new agent who enters the service shortly after Bond (Daniel Craig, starring in his fifth and final outing) retires, and inherits his legendary code number.

Lashana’s character, Nomi, appeared briefly in the latest trailer approximately halfway through, but she really sparkled by the end. She was first seen in a car, sitting shotgun in a car. She jumped in and flew a jet with Bond in tow at the end of the trailer.

“We [Black women] know how it feels to be mis- and underrepresented and we know how it feels to yearn for someone, anyone in the world to speak our truth for us when we feel like we don’t have a voice. And I’m hoping that my career and my choice in roles and me just being me, authentically, is shining a light on our power”, she said in an interview. The announcement of Lynch as next 007 met with outrage from misogynistic and racist trolls. Like a tigress she ignored all the hate comments and said  “I don’t have anything to say to the trolls apart from it’s none of my business what you think, you have the freedom to live in your truth just like I have the freedom to live in mine,”.

“No Time to Die” follows “Spectre,” which was released in 2015, and is nearly the longest interval between Bond films. Lynch’s next project is to play Miss Honey in Netflix’s “Matilda” musical, which is set to premiere in 2022. She’ll also be seen alongside Viola Davis in the historical epic The Woman King directed by The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood.
