On-Set Accidents: Tragic History of Hollywood

Hollywood, a land full of life and belief where dreams are made but it seems like the ghost of death hovering over television and movie sets. The death of Halyna Hutchins, a 42-year-old director of photography, while working on the film “Rust” in New Mexico after actor Alec Baldwin fired a pretend gun is the on-set tragedy that added latest on the list.
There have been multiple cases of such tragedy where crew members and stunt performers lost their life at work. Before this, a female stunt performer of the movie Deadpool 2 also died on the set during the executing of a scene in 2017.
Accidents during the production have also claimed the lives of cast members, including:

Brandon Lee

Brandon Lee died in 1993 during filming the closing sequences of the film “The Crow” after being shot with a toy/fake gun. Actor Michael Massee, who played cocaine dealer Funboy in the film, shot Lee with a pistol that was subsequently discovered to be incorrectly loaded during a scene.
Although cardboard wadding had been used to replace dummy bullets, a bullet piece had broken off and remained in the pistol. Lee’s abdomen was wounded by the metal point of the fake bullet. Bruce Lee’s son, actor and martial-arts instructor Brandon Lee, died at the age of 28.

Jon-Erik Hexum

Jon-Erik Hexum rose to prominence in 1982 after starring as Phineas Bogg in the NBC sitcom “Voyagers!”
The tall and extremely gorgeous actor was a rising star, and he was quickly hired in the TV series “Cover-Up” as Mac Harper, a CIA asset disguised as a male model.,Hexum apparently shot himself in the head while playing with a prop gun from a scene he was filming. A chunk of his skull was driven into his brain by the blank, and he was taken off life support a week later. Later, his character was written out in the program.

Vic Morrow

By the time he starred in “Twilight Zone: The Movie” in 1982, Victor Morrow had a long history as an actor and director. Morrow played a racist who is taken back in time and put in a variety of circumstances. The actor and two kid actors, 7-year-old Myca Dinh Le and 6-year-old Renee Shin-Yi Chen, were shot escaping from a Vietnamese village during the Vietnam war while a US Army helicopter hovered above them in a scene directed by John Landis.
Following a pyrotechnic explosion, the helicopter crashed, killing Morrow, 53, and the children.

Involuntary manslaughter charges were filed against Landis, the pilot, and three others. Following a high-profile trial that lasted over nine months, they were all acquitted.
