No Actress On Board To Play Sita’s Character Yet, Says Screenwriter K. V. Vijayendra Prasad

Screenwriter K. V. Vijayendra Prasad is known for his exceptional writing especially in iconic films such as Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi among others. Ever since he announced his upcoming project ‘Sita‘, speculations have been going around on which leading lady will bag the role. However, Vijayendra Prasad has just put all these rumours to rest with one of his statements.

Lately, there have been a lot of speculations around the actress playing Sita Ma’s role in Vijayendra Prasad’s upcoming film. It was only recently that a report accused Kareena Kapoor of demanding 12 crores to play Sita. But that didn’t fare well with the audience as they didn’t want Kareena Kapoor Khan playing Sita Ma’s role and thus hashtags demanding her boycott started trending. However, as it turns out, all of this was over a false rumour. Another report claimed that Deepika Padukone will be playing the role of Sita, but even that rumour has been refuted by a source close to the film.

In a recent interview, K. V. Vijayendra Prasad stated that no heroine has been finalized for the role of Sita Maa yet. Directed by Alaukik Desai, this retelling of Ramayana is still looking for their Sita and Prasad has stated that they would announce the name of the actress as and when it gets finalized. Meanwhile, a source close to the project also revealed that they might choose a newcomer for the role of Sita.

Further elaborating on the decision of casting a newcomer, the source cited the example of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan and said that people accepted Deepika Chikhlia as Sita and loved her as she was a new face. However, he added that if Deepika Padukone plays the role, people will look at the actress and not focus on the role. According to sources, the auditions are on and the makers will soon announce their Sita once an actress has been finalized.
