India Has The Best Vaccine Manufacturing Capacity, Says UN Secy-Gen
Calling India’s COVID vaccine manufacturing capacity the best the world has currently, the UN secretary general said that he hopes for India to become a major contributor to the global immunisation drive in the near future
It is a proud moment for India as the United Nations acknowledged the country’s production capacity of COVID vaccines as the best the world has today. During an official address yesterday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that he is aware about India’s high-level production and the indigenously produced immunizations against the global health crisis. Disclosing that his team is in touch with Indian manufacturing institutes, he stated that he hoped for India to be well-equipped with all the necessary instruments to provide the vaccines internationally in the coming months.
As a part of his Atmanirbhar proposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated the production of made in India dosages against Coronavirus early last year. Good news came in during the first week of 2021 as two vaccine candidates, the Bharat Biotech manufactured Covaxin and the Serum Institute of India’s Covishield were given an emergency approval by the regulatory authority of the nation. India is currently amidst its vaccination drive with over 28 lakh health care workers injected till now. The administration plans to give the two dose shots, which have a gap of 28 days between each other to 30 crore healthcare workers, frontline workers, senior citizens and people with comorbidities by July 2021.
