Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik, who is facing an enquiry by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for money laundering in connection with the Topsgrup case has been granted relief from the Supreme Court. The MLA, his son Vihang Sarnaik and brother-in-law Yogesh Chandegala filed a writ petition with the apex judicial body. As per the court’s order, no coercive action can be taken against the petitioners and they must be questioned in the presence of their lawyers. Additionally, Sarnaik was also granted his request to audio and video record the entire interrogation of him and his family.

Amit Chandole, the former managing director of the company was arrested by the ED in November, while the promoter Rahul Nanda, also in the radar of the agency, is reportedly in the United Kingdom.

According to the Shiv Sena politician, he has been dragged into the case on the assumption that he is involved in the scam by virtue of being acquainted with the promoters. While he had already been beckoned for investigation by the authorities three times till now, his son has been sent five summons till now unsuccessfully. Officials had raided the Sarnaik residence on 24 November, after which they asked for the father-son duo to mark their attendance for further questioning.  Citing his quarantining after an outstation trip as the reason to postpone his meeting with the ED, an appeal was filed by the family in the interim in the court for relief in this case.

The minister’s close aide Sanket More has also been called by the department.

Meanwhile, Sarnaik said that he will abide by his duties as a responsible citizen and MLA and go to the ED office at 11 am tomorrow with his son.
