The Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny has now been sentenced to three and a half years of jail time by a Moscow court. He was found guilty of violating his probation terms by them. Alexei Navalny’s case is that of money-laundering and is from around seven years ago. Navalny claims that it is a very politically motivated case. He also insists that the due process was ‘crudely violated’ at the time of his arrest. He also added that the decision to do so was simply a mockery of true justice. His court hearing was attended by his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, and several other supporters of the politician. Navalny’s supporters also took to streets to protest.
During his hearing, Alexei Navalny used his hands to make a heart gesture as he stood in the defendant’s cage. Certain reports also say that the politician could be heard mocking Vladimir Putin while in there. Apparently, he stated that similar to how there was once Alexander, the liberator and Yaroslav, the wise, the world will have a Vladimir Putin, the underwear poisoner. He insisted that it was exactly how Putin would be recognised in history someday.
The now-imprisoned politician gave a fiery speech to the court, wherein he said that Putin was the one who jailed him due to his concerns about him as a political rival. Kremlin is now fearing and addressing the Alexei Navalny as a ‘troublemaker’ who does not have much popular support.
