Veteran Actor Dilip Kumar Laid To Rest With State Honours; Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar Pay Last Respects

As per CM Uddhav Thackeray’s instructions, Dilip Kumar was buried with state honours. Meanwhile, celebrities like Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan and others visited the late actors residence to pay homage.

July 7, 2021, was a dark day for not just the entire film industry, but also for the country. The Indian cinema lost one of its brightest stars in the form of Dilip Kumar. The veteran actor died at the age of 98 due to prolonged illness. As soon as the news was out, tributes and condolence messages started pouring in for the actor and his dear ones. The fact that he touched numerous souls with his films, was pretty evident from the way people talked about him. While several celebrities mourned his death on social media, many stars including Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor and Karan Johar immediately reached the veteran star’s residence to pay their last respects.

Popularly known as the ‘Tragedy King’ of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar was a method actor, way ahead of his time. Reminiscing his extraordinary personality, Amitabh Bachchan called him “an institution” while stating that Indian Cinema’s history will be classified into two categories, “before Dilip Kumar, and after Dilip Kumar”. While Ajay Devgn called him a “timeless actor”, Akshay Kumar thought of him as “the hero”. Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor stated, “Our world is a little less bright today because one of our brightest stars has left us for the heavens”.

Dilip Saab’s residence saw many visitors paying their last respects to the actor including Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Later, the CMO’s office shared a tweet that translates to, “Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has instructed that the funeral of veteran actor Dilip Kumar will be held in a state funeral”. The legendary Dilip Kumar was laid to rest with all the state honours.

Many celebrities also made it to Dilip Saab‘s residence to pay homage and provide condolences to Saira Banu and other relatives of the actor. Among them was Dharmendra, who mourned his brother’s death but said that he’ll live with the late actor’s memories in his heart. Shah Rukh Khan, who Dilip Saab considered his own son was seen emphatically consoling Saira Banu. Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor and Karan Johar also reached Dilip Kumar’s residence for a last look at the actor.
