PM Modi To Lay Foundation Stone For AIIMS Rajkot Today
The new AIIMS in Rajkot, the foundation stone for which will be laid virtually by the PM today, will be built over 201 acres by mid-2022 at an approximate cost of 1,195 crore rupees
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rajkot today at 11 am. The ceremony, that will take place through video conferencing will also see the presence of Union Minister for Health Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Minister of State for Health Nitinbhai Ratilal Patel and state Governor Acharya Devvrat.
The medical facility’s establishment in Gujarat is a long-standing dream of the PM, the construction for which will start after today and be completed by mid-2022. To be built over an allotted 201 acres, the hospital will house 750 beds with a separate 30-beds Ayush block. The project approved in January 2019 by the union cabinet is estimated to cost around 1,195 crore rupees. The premiere institute will offer 125 MBBS seats and 60 seats for nursing students.
There are currently six fully operational AIIMS in the country in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh. In the last five years, the government has approved the proposal for 15 new AIIMS which will be established in a phased manner under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY).
